Johnny James Jawbone was born March 17, 1979 in Thompson, Manitoba, and was raised in Tadoule Lake. He was taught carving by George Wesley, starting at the age of 15.

Johnny is Sayisi Dene. He enjoys carving Dene drummers, animals and human forms. He also enjoys drumming, fishing, hunting caribou for family and living off the land.
