Steve Jorgenson
Manitoba
Steve Jorgenson has been creating pottery full-time since 1975, after moving to Winnipeg from Seattle, Washington where he grew up.He shared space in a co-op pottery studio in St. Boniface until establishing his own studio in 1982.
His wheel thrown pots are of stoneware clay and are designed to be both functional and visually interesting. Motifs from nature are carved into the clay surfaces, which are brushed with multi- coloured slip. Transparent matte or gloss glazes are applied and the pottery is then fired in a gas kiln to approximately 2350°F, using a reduction atmoshpere to produce rich colours.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a degree in art education from Seattle Pacific University.
His pottery can be found in collections across Canada and the United States.
